"What an inspirational play! It engaged me from the outset and left me reflecting on the power of dramatic performance. The script displayed a high level of research and rich insight into the life, spirituality and mission of Catherine McAuley. The technique of providing short breaks for question time between the characters and audience added a further level of engagement and insight into Catherine’s life. Well done! I would highly recommend 'A Bright Light in the Darkness' to all Mercy Primary schools." Sr Margaret Sheppard, Sisters of Mercy Parramatta, Preview performance 2015.
The play captures the heart and spirit of Catherine McAuley as we chronicle her journey through life; from the childhood influences of her father, to becoming an accomplished adult in her own right.
"She used to love to sing and dance and that comes through in the play – that she was a real person, with real passions and real loves. She just wanted to serve the poor.” Michelle Keatinge, St Charles REC, speaking about 'A Bright Light in the Darkness" to 'About Catholic Schools Magazine' Oct 23rd edition. 2015.
Catherine built a house of Mercy in Baggot Street, Dublin Ireland, which became a home for orphans and women and a poor school. Catherine also tended to the sick in hospitals and in their homes and famously walked the streets helping people less fortunate.
