About:

"An incredible production! A must see for schools (and big kids alike!). Well done Therase and your amazing crew! Laura, Jade and Simon you personified your roles so well and truly captured the life of one courageous woman! Congratulations to you all!” Anne- Marie Gallagher Education Officer , Mary MacKillop Place, North Sydney. 2018

Following the overwhelming response to our production 'A Bright Light in the Darkness – The Catherine McAuley Story' Blue Whale Theatre presents
Mary - A Story of Courage - a play created especially for children on the life of Mary MacKillop, Australia's first and only Saint.

"The Mary MacKillop performance was terrific! I was impressed with the types of questions the students asked which is evidence of how engaged they were in the performance." Meagan Kwiatkowski, Villa Maria Catholic Primary School, Sydney (2017)

Capturing the heart and spirit of Mary MacKillop, Mary - A Story of Courage teaches children how Mary rose from humble beginnings to lead a life that touched thousands.
We show how Mary overcame set backs, oppositions and tragedies to become a leading example of human fortitude.

Our actors use artfully created scenes and unique storytelling to bring to life the story of Mary MacKillop before your eyes. We tell Mary's tale in three sections: the childhood influences in her youth, her pivotal experiences and achievements in early adulthood, and finally her later life and the legacy she left behind.

"Another wonderful experience of professional storytelling from Blue Whale Theatre. Thank you for your expert performances and professional actors who brought the story of Mary MacKillop to life for the current generation."
Emma Lenehan, Our Lady Queen of Peace Primary, Sydney (2017)

After each section the audience are invited to ask the actor playing Mary MacKillop questions, in a 'hot seat session' facilitated by another actor. These 5-minute Q&A sessions give children the opportunity to interact with Mary in character, and ask emotional or factual questions about what they have seen.

"Mary’s story made me think about what I can do to help others. After watching this performance I know never to see a need without doing something about it”.
Rachel (Year 6) Our Lady Queen of Peace Primary, Sydney (2017)
