Shake & stir theatre co has been operating throughout Queensland since 2006 and has grown into a comprehensive youth-focussed contemporary theatre company. shake & stir theatre co currently produce a season of nine in-school productions. The repertoire includes popular adaptations of Shakespearean favourites, a program of issue-based performances targeting key subjects affecting youth and a primary school season including the first in-schools production that introduces Shakespeare to primary students – Shake Up! Each of shake & stir theatre co’s productions are accredited by Education Queensland and are compiled by a team of young theatre professionals with a passion for creating and sharing inspiring theatre with young people.

In addition to a busy annual touring schedule, shake & stir theatre co has a thriving after school drama program reaching approx 300 students at both primary and secondary levels across Brisbane. Like their in-school performances, shake & stir drama classes are dynamic, fast paced, youthful and inspiring. A recent addition to the menu of offerings at shake & stir theatre co is the main stage production department. shake & stir theatre co will produce a season of main stage productions annually, targeting the young and the young at heart to a degree only possible in a live theatre space.

Shakespeare

All the world’s a stage.Give students a fresh approach when tackling the works of William Shakespeare. Masterclasses can be tailored to suit your studied play.

Brechtian Theatre

“Don’t be afraid of death so much, as an inadequate life” – Bertolt Brecht

Using Brecht’s plays and techniques as a starting point, students will consider how to create theatre to affect the audience.

Children’s Theatre

Theatre for the young and the young at heart.

Equip students with the skills needed to create and stage their own engaging children’s theatre performance.

Monologues & Auditions

This Masterclass looks at how to analyse a monologue, connect to the text in context of the original source material and how to beat and unit dialogue.

Multi-Media Theatre

Discover new possibilities…

Shake & stir theatre co break down the steps to take when deciding on suitable media for a production and discuss the various techniques commonly used to incorporate multi-media into a performance.

Physical theatre

Every way, shape and form.

Students will be encouraged to trust their instincts and create narratives, express emotions and work both individually and cooperatively to create a contemporary short piece of physical theatre.

Clowning/Commedia

Be the laughing stock of your school.

Your students will work with some of QLD’s most renowned clowns to help them better understand the delicate art of clowning.

Storytelling

Focusing on vocal and physical characterisation, students will consider the infinite possibilities when storytelling using their instruments – voice and body.

Playwriting/theatre making

Learn the art of creating new work.

Develop the skills of basic script composition and the process of turning that ‘good idea’ into an interesting and well-structured piece of theatre.
